Liberia National Police Supports LWSC Anti-Theft Operations

The Liberia National Police (LNP), in collaboration with the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC), has uncovered an organized water theft operation involving multiple water trucks.

On the night of Friday, October 11, 2024, LNP patrol officers discovered individuals believed to be water truck operators discreetly filling their tankers with LWSC water. The illegal operation took place behind the VAMOMA House, located along the Airfield New Road in Sinkor.

The suspects strategically parked their trucks near LWSC pipelines and used generators and water pumps under the cover of darkness to extract treated water. It is believed that the individuals intentionally damaged the pipeline to gain unauthorized access to an unmetered supply of water, which was being used for commercial purposes.

When LNP officers arrived on the scene, the suspects fled, abandoning their tankers, generators, and pumping equipment. The police impounded the vehicles and confiscated the equipment, which is now being held as evidence in the ongoing investigation.

Commenting on the incident, LWSC Managing Director, Hon. Mohammed Ali, expressed deep frustration over the deliberate sabotage of public utility services. “It is disheartening that individuals would resort to such acts of theft and vandalism, particularly at a time when significant efforts are being made to improve LWSC’s services for the benefit of the public’; MD Ali mentioned.

He commended the Liberia National Police for their swift intervention and reaffirmed the Corporation’s commitment to combat water theft and other illegal activities that threaten its operations.

At the same time, the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation issues a stern warning to individuals engaged in water theft, willful property damage, or tampering with infrastructure to cease such activities immediately.

The Corporation emphasizes that anyone found undermining its operations-whether through theft, destruction, or damage to LWSC properties will be held accountable under the law.
