LWSC TO PUMP WATER IN SIX COUNTIES

The Managing Director of Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC), Hon. Duannah Kamara has disclosed plans by his administration to begin the distribution of pipe borne water to six (6) counties exclusive of Montserrado which currently receives the largest portion of water supplies from the Corporation.

Kamara named the counties to shortly benefit from the Initiative as Grand Gedeh,Grand Bassa,Margibi,Lofa,Nimba and Grand Cape Mount Counties.

According to Kamara,though the capital cities of these counties currently enjoy a minimum supply of water,the Corporation intends to increase access to water in these areas by connecting more homes and institutions ,both private and government,with support from its partners including the African Development Bank )AfDB) under its social connection project.

Making the disclosure recently at the Ministry of Information Cultural Affairs and Tourism ( MICAT) regular press conference in Monrovia, Kamara explained that the LWSC in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development will ensure that water is distributed in those areas.

“To accomplish our programs at the LWSC,we shall continue to rally support from our international partners including the good people of the United States of America through their USAID project in Liberia ”,Hon.Kamara mentioned.

He explained that the LWSC has constructed three sites through the Liberia Managerial program ( LMP) which will be commissioned shortly.

“ Once these facilities are commissioned , we will begin installing the distribution lines for the first time in those areas to enable the supply of water for use by our people”, he told the MICAT gathering.

The LWSC Boss noted that as part of President George Weah’s pro poor government agenda,the provision and supply of safe Water is key in lifting Liberians from the dungeon of poverty and deprivation and ensuring that Liberians can once again return to the life of dignity they once enjoyed.

“ This pro poor government believes the provision and supply of safe water is pivotal to ensure a vibrant health sector as health risks associated with unsafe water will drastically be minimized”,Kamara intoned.

On the issue of water theft,the LWSC Managing Director disclosed that consultations have been ongoing with law enforcement and Anti corruption institutions on 
litigating the situation .

“We have had some successful discussions with the Liberia Anti- Corruption Commission to address the issue of illegal connection on our water lines” ,according to Managing Director Kamara.

The LWSC Boss however noted that the laws on theft of property and the 2017 LWSC Act will come into full swing against individuals and institutions who are found to be roping government of the much needed revenue.

Kamara has also said the LWSC will set up a task force to conduct inspections in and around Monrovia to identify those who are illegally using the water supplied by the corporation.

Kamara referred to the group as the ‘’ Pro-Poor Taskforce.’’
